While 3D HDTVs were introduced back at CES earlier this year across the entire board of manufacturers, they have yet to catch on in a big way. After all, how many living rooms of friends whom you know have a 3D LED HDTV? That has not stopped various manufacturers from continue to churn out additional models, and Samsung leads the way with their latest 65-inch monster known as the Samsung UN65C8000. This model is the largest Full HD 3D LED TV available in the market for homes worldwide today, where it will come with Samsung’s built-in 3D processor, real 240Hz refresh rate technology, dynamic 8,000,000:1 contrast ratio and proprietary Precision Dimming technology. Too bad the technology isn’t there for 3D video calling just yet, but keep your fingers crossed that such a feature will be made available to end users like you an I sometime down the road. Not only that, you are able to access a full range of apps including Hulu Plus and ESPN Next Level through Samsung Apps at your convenience.
It is expected that the Samsung UN65C8000 will retail for $5,999. 99 as it hits the market this month, but just in case that does not really suit your budget in these economically trying times, Samsung has also made sure its 2010 Plasma HDTV line-up is expanded with a trio of new 3D-enabled plasma TVs, namely the PN58C680, the PN50C680 and the PN50C490 which will retail for $2,299. 99, $1,599. 99 and $1,099. 99, respectively.

The Dell Streak has had its fair chance to shine in the UK for some time already, so it is now the time for folks in the US to play with the Streak. Dell has just made available their 5″ tablet device to North America, but not without some initial snags already. It seems that while you are able to pick it up for $299. 99 with a new 2-year AT&T contract, there is also an option to do so for a rather $549. 99 without. The snag? Even if you want to put in a SIM card from another carrier, you can’t, simply because the Dell Streak is carrier locked to AT&T. That’s a bummer for folks who prefer services from other providers, but we are pretty sure that hackers who see this as a delightful challenge will do their level best to unlock the Dell Streak in due time.
Orders for the Dell Streak Tablet should have started from today onwards, where the Streak will be released tomorrow. Before we proceed further, here are some details on the Streak – this carbon black Android-based tablet will come equipped with a 5-inch display, where it aims to function as more than just a portable media player, providing excellent “on-the-go” entertainment, social connection, and navigation experience. It comes with integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, while 3G support enables easy access for downloading and listening to music, updating social networking status in real-time, and staying connected to friends and family through e-mail, text, IM, and voice calls, wherever you are.
The 5-inch display is also great to present Web pages in their natural form, making it nearly as good as the smallest netbook. With a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor within, you won’t find the Streak gasping for breath as it goes about with your daily business. Integrated Google Maps offer turn-by-turn navigation, street and satellite views, while a high resolution 5-megapixel camera lets you capture memories vividly wherever you are at that moment. Its 2GB of internal memory can be further augmented using a microSD memory card.

Luggage tags are handy to help your luggage make its way back to you should it get separated from you. However, that tiny little tag only leaves room for an address, your name and an email. There are times when you might want more information listed, for those occasions, you could add some extra information on the flash drive itself.
If you’re a student and want the suitcase sent to a different address than your parent’s address. You can always include certain details like that on the tag. You could even just use it as a normal flash drive when you’re not traveling. They come in bright colors, so you’ll easily be able spot your bag from a distance. Each one of the 2GB drives can be purchased for $29. 95.

Love building stuff of your own? The LEGO TECHNIC Motorized Excavator should not only be able to satisfy you, but your child as well. Of course, for something as complex as this, we would not expect him or her to be that young, but rather, at least 12 years old and above. After all, making a $199. 99 purchase decision is never going to be easy for anyone especially in this day and age. When completed, what you get would be a fully remote controlled excavator that features double remote controls tracks which are able to run back and forth, alongside an arm which can be raised and lowered, carrying a shovel to dig. The cabin also works like the real deal, spinning a cool 360 degrees. The entire set comes with 1,123 LEGO pieces, so make sure you have a decent sized container to store everything. For more bang for your buck, it can also be rebuilt into a Tracked Loader.

Posted on 14 August 2010. Tags: 15th, Desire, Event, incoming, Planned, September
I’m annoyed. I am, in fact, annoyed for two reasons, the second of which I’ll get into in a minute, but the first is a simple one: our news section beat me to this story. Er, not that there’s any friendly competition between us, or anything, but that makes it 1-0 to them for today. So far, anyway. Vengeance will be mine.
But I digress…
The news is that HTC have some kind of launch event planned for September 15th, and have been sending out invites to people (I, notably, despite my incessant brown-nosing, never got one). And of course, speculation has been rife about what they’re actually going to unveil.
The most common conclusion is, unsurprisingly, the HTC Desire HD, the newer, even-more-ludicrously-overpowered version of the current bog-standard HTC Desire (although calling the current Desire ‘bog-standard’ is ironic given that it’s anything but, but you get my point). And this leads on nicely to the second reason why I’m annoyed, because I planned on swooping in, saying something along the lines of “ah-ha, no, it’s clearly the Windows Phone 7-powered Schubert, plebs”, being right, and stealing the glory for being right.
Except it’s not, is it?
If you do some fiddling about with the photo on the invite (the one with the smoke, in the pic on this blog post), then you get a clearer look at the phone hidden in the background. And the phone it most resembles (based on the videos we’ve seen) is the HTC Desire HD, thus cruelly denying me my chance to be a maverick, whilst simultaneously being correct, thus offering insurmountable proof I’m smarter than everyone round me.
I’m not bitter, honest…
Still, on the plus side, since it seems likely it is the Desire HD, at least that means we’ll soon be able to pit the two big screen Android monsters in the UK against each other. I’m really rather looking forward to the showdown between the HTC Desire HD and the Samsung Galaxy S, ‘cos it’s going to be epic.
But still, the lack of opportunity to be a grandstanding idiot is annoying…

Take a Lomo camera and have it shoot at all angles around you and what do you get? Why, the Lomo Panoramic 360° Camera, of course! This £99. 99 addition to your shutterbug collection will put a whole new perspective on things, and despite using 35mm film and a manual rubber band drive, it is one unique camera that is capable of shooting truly panoramic shots of the world around you. All you need to do is take hold of the handle, tug the ripcord and check out the Lomo as it spins on its own axis, shootnig everything all round in sight, making the final product four times longer compared to the standard landscape snap. Perfect for those who want to expand upon their photography skills, and you can also shoot 180° images by only pulling the cord halfway. Since it uses traditional film, you’ll probably need to make more budget for all the amount of film involved, not to mention its processing.

A step-by-step guide to updating your HTC Desire to Android 2. 2 (aka Froyo) has been published on the internet.
If you’re yet to get your update and are fed up with waiting for it read on because we’ve done a summary of the guide produced by the wonderful people at Pocket-lint.
We all know what’s great about the update: the operating system turns phones into Wi-Fi hotspots so files can be passed between phone and computers; offers faster connectivity; supports Flash 10. 1; and allows users to store and install apps with a MicroSD card.
Read more about the great features on Android 2. 2
And we all know what’s not so great: mainly that’s it taking an age to roll out and be made compatible with our phones.
So here’s the update lowdown…
First – find out if the update is available
If you have not had a prompt on your phone telling you this press the ‘Menu’ key at the bottom of the phone, then ‘Settings’, scroll to the bottom and select ‘About Phone’, then select ‘System updates’ or ‘System software updates’ and then ‘Check now’. It will either say you have an update or that it is up-to-date. If it says the letter, hit back and check your ‘Android version’ if it says 2. 1 your network is still to provide the update, if it says 2. 2 you’re sorted.
Second – back up your phone so you don’t lose anything
Updating to Android 2. 2 could wipe your phone memory so make sure your HTC Desire is set to back everything up by going to ‘Menu’ again. Then select ‘privacy’ and make sure ‘Back up my settings and data’ is ticked. Give your phone time to back up before doing anything else.
Third – Back up your phone to you PC as well
You can do this by plugging your HTC Desire into your computer using a USB cable and copy your MicroSD card to a folder on your desktop. First make sure that your Gmail is synched to your phone by going to ‘Menu’ on your phone again and select ‘Accounts’, ‘Sync’ and make sure all your boxes are ticked and your Gmail accounts added.
Fourth – Accept upgrade
Go back to ‘Menu’, ‘Settings’, ‘About phone’, ‘System software update’ and ‘Check now’. Download the update over Wi-Fi so that it’s quicker and uses less of your data allowance. Wait for the update to run, your phone to reboot (possibly a few times) and your personal settings to be restored.

If you’re protective of your portable electronics, then it’s tough finding a serious case to keep them all safe. For those of you that have an Apple laptop and a DSLR camera with plenty of lenses and attachments, there is this case. It looks like something they’d use in the military to carry some important weaponry. Instead it’s a heavy duty case that’ll make sure to keep your electronics safe and sound.
Although it’s a Camera and Apple Laptop Case, you can put a laptop of any brand into the case as long as it’s 17” or less. On the lid itself there is a cushioned area to keep your laptop, then in the bottom is an area for your camera and all the little pieces you carry with you. The camera area is completely customizable, so that you can make sure that the items you need will fit properly. You can purchase one of these PSC200 StudioCruzer Carry-On Cases for $240.

Posted on 13 August 2010. Tags: dryer, dunked, Hits, Japan, lifesaver, mobile, phones
Chances are, if you’ve ever owned a mobile phone, then you know the sheer horror of said phone taking a dunking in water. Y’know, say, if you fall in the river while fishing (like my dad did). Or you bend over, and it drops in the dunny (hint: pray you’ve already flushed). Or someone knocks a pint of Guinness over it while being a retard with a pool cue (like my mate Gemsie did over my phone).
Anyway, the point is that according, to GizMag, there is hope for someone, if their phone gets an impromptu dunking. Well, and also, if they live in Japan, since it’s not available over here, yet. In a fit of originality, it’s called the Dryer Box, and what it is, y’see, is a box that dries the phone. Bet you didn’t see that coming, eh?
So, how does it work? Well, frankly, I have no clue, because the company who makes them aren’t telling. So, let’s call it magic. Or a hundredweight of silica gel. Either’s good. The point is that if your phone gets drowneded, you pay 1000 yen (just over 7 quid), stick your phone in for half an hour, and voila, it lives again. Theoretically. Although it’s not guaranteed, which is why, brilliantly, if your phone remains drowneded after going in the Dryer Box, you don’t have to pay anything. Simples. And brilliant.
So, why haven’t we got them in the UK??
Seriously, this is a heartfelt message to JMC Risk Solutions, who make the Dryer Box. I live in England. We, in England, only have three seasons: the cold season, the wet season, and the cold AND wet season. Our rainy season began in 1383AD. And we are useless at keeping our mobile phones safe. Many’s the tale of a harmless Samsung Galaxy S being unceremoniously dropped down the bog, or an iPhone 4 being dropped in someone’s pint for a laugh…
We, more than any other nation, need the Dryer Box. I implore you, I beseech you, I get down on my knees and beg of you, JMC Risk Solutions, please don’t forsake us in our hour (well, epoch) of need.
